ホウネンエビ Fairy Shrimp

田んぼにカエルの卵を取りに行ったら、２日前には卵があったのにすでにオタマジャクシになっていた・・・。でも、何か採って帰ろうと思って田んぼの中を覗いていたら何か小さくて泳ぐものが大量に見えた。とりあえず何だか分からなかったけれど採ってきて見た。家に帰ってみんなで「エビだ！」「ザリガニの子供だ！」と言っていたのだが、昨日のニュースでホウネンエビの話題を見て、ホウネンエビだという事が判明！今年はきっと豊作だねぇ。

ホウネンエビはＷｉｋｉｐｅｄｉａによると、水田に多数発生し、その姿がおもしろいことから、古くからそれなりの注目を受けた。和名のホウネンエビは豊年えびの意味で、これがよく発生する年は豊年になるとの伝承に基づく。ホウネンウオ、ホウネンムシの名も伝えられる。ホウネンエビの名は、上野益三が本種を図鑑に収録する際に、ホウネンウオの名を元にして、魚ではないからと海老に変えたものらしい（参考文献の上野(1973)にその旨の記述がある）。地域によってはタキンギョ（田金魚）という呼び名もあるようである。尾が赤いのを金魚にたとえたことによるらしい。

We caught Fairy Shrimp. We went to catch frog egg but there was already tadpole only two days since we saw frog egg. Fairy Shrimp's Japanese name is a harvest shrimp. When there is fairy shrimp in the rice farm, it will be a good harvest that year. So it will be a bumper harvest this year!

Fairy shrimp (Anostraca) are branchiopods that include brine shrimp. They often appear in vernal pools, pot holes and other ephemeral pools. Although they live in fresh or saltwater, they do not live in oceans or seas. They are well-adapted to living in arid areas where water is present for only part of the year.(from Wikipedia)
